Education / apprenticeship initiatives

Gosport Borough Council is in discussion with Fareham College, Hornet Sailing Club and Solent LEP looking at developing specialist training for students in heritage conservation work. This will involve on-site training and enable students to work on historic buildings on the site.

The initial idea focuses on providing training in the use of lime mortars, plasters, renders, brickwork and roofing materials and would aim to include actual hands-on experience of repairs to a heritage assets. Apprenticeships and helping to establish a specialist training centre would be key to this initiative with the aim of developing with the College and other partners a centre of excellent as a HAZ legacy.

In addition, opportunities to include schemes/short course/events for heritage guiding, and conservation education to homeowners, will be considered as part of the broader education potential.
