St George Barrack South Community initiatives

St George Barracks were converted for residential purposes in the early 2000s, with a number of historic buildings converted into apartments. Key features, such as gateways and surrounding railings have all been retained.

Residents are keen to develop community-led initiatives to enhance the site and its interpretation. They are working with Gosport Borough Council on refining their ideas with a view to PSiCA and/or National Lottery Heritage Fund bid and/or Community CIL

Ideas include:

  • Interpretation Panels about Op Frankton
  • Restoration of 400 metres of Grade II listed railings

Very much a community led project, the residents of St George Barracks South (aka Pavilions) have restored the Grade II listed railings around the site.  They look really fabulous.
